And all the nations of the earth will be blessed  by your offspring  because you have obeyed my command.’


For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see the things you see but didn’t see them, to hear the things you hear but didn’t hear them.


For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see the things you see but didn’t see them; to hear the things you hear but didn’t hear them.’


‘I did tell you and you don’t believe,’ Jesus answered them. ‘The works   that I do in my Father’s name testify about me.


I know you are descendants of Abraham,   but you are trying to kill me because my word has no place among you.


‘Our father is Abraham,’ they replied. ‘If you were Abraham’s children,’ Jesus told them, ‘you would do what Abraham did.


These all died in faith, although they had not received the things that were promised. But they saw them from a distance,  greeted them, and confessed that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth.


All these were approved through their faith, but they did not receive what was promised,
