But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said to him, ‘You are about to die because of the woman you have taken, for she is a married woman.’

But they answered, ‘Should he treat our sister like a prostitute? ’


However, as a woman may betray her lover, so you have betrayed  me, house of Israel. This is the  Lord’s declaration.


You adulterous wife, who receives strangers instead of her husband!


‘ “Therefore, you prostitute, hear the word of the Lord!


‘This is the law regarding jealousy when a wife goes astray and defiles herself while under her husband’s authority,


Also, if she divorces her husband   and marries another, she commits adultery.’


‘Go and call your husband,’ he told her, ‘and come back here.’


‘I don’t have a husband,’ she answered. ‘You have correctly said, “I don’t have a husband,” ’ Jesus said.


‘Sir,’ the woman replied, ‘I see that you are a prophet.


So then, if she is married to another man while her husband is living, she will be called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law. Then, if she is married to another man, she is not an adulteress.


Marriage is to be honoured by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, because God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.


I have also acquired Ruth the Moabitess, Mahlon’s widow, as my wife, to perpetuate the deceased man’s name on his property, so that his name will not disappear among his relatives or from the gate of his home town. You are witnesses today.’
