When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing there, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, here is your son.’
They said to her, ‘Woman, why are you crying? ’ ‘Because they’ve taken away my Lord,’ she told them, ‘and I don’t know where they’ve put him.’
‘Woman,’ Jesus said to her, ‘why are you crying? Who is it that you’re seeking? ’ Supposing he was the gardener, she replied, ‘Sir, if you’ve carried him away, tell me where you’ve put him, and I will take him away.’
For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he must rise from the dead.
So Peter turned round and saw the disciple Jesus loved following them, the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and asked, ‘Lord, who is the one that’s going to betray you? ’
This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.
The disciple, the one Jesus loved, said to Peter, ‘It is the Lord! ’ When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he tied his outer clothing round him (for he had taken it off) and plunged into the sea.
