When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’s knees and said, ‘Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord! ’


He is the one coming after me,  , whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to untie.’


Next, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet and to dry them with the towel tied round him.


Jesus answered him, ‘What I’m doing you don’t realise now, but afterwards you will understand.’
