As water disappears from a lake and a river becomes parched and dry,
As the waters fail from the sea, And the flood decayeth and drieth up:
As waters evaporate from the lake, and the river drains and dries up,
As the waters fail from the sea, And the river wasteth and drieth up;
Water vanishes from the sea; a river dries up completely.
It is as if the waters had receded from the sea and an emptied river had dried up;
As if the waters should depart out of the sea, and an emptied river should be dried up:
so people lie down never to rise again. They will not wake up until the heavens are no more; they will not stir from their sleep.
The water of the sea will dry up, and the river will be parched and dry.
Why has my pain become unending, my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? You truly have become like a mirage to me – water that is not reliable.
