Mordecai also gave him a copy of the written decree issued in Susa ordering their destruction, so that Hathach might show it to Esther, explain it to her, and command her to approach the king, implore his favour, and plead with him personally for her people.


The officials were angry at Jeremiah and beat him and placed him in jail in the house of Jonathan  the scribe, for it had been made into a prison.


So now please listen, my lord the king. May my petition come before you.  Don’t send me back to the house of Jonathan the scribe, or I will die there.’


All the officials did come to Jeremiah, and they questioned him. He reported to them the exact words that the king had commanded, and they stopped speaking with him because the conversation  had not been overheard.


the prophet Jeremiah and said, ‘May our petition come before you;  pray to the Lord your God on our behalf,  on behalf of this entire remnant (for few of us remain out of the many,  as you can see with your own eyes),
