and blessed be God Most High who has handed over your enemies to you. And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.


Then the king of Sodom said to Abram, ‘Give me the people, but take the possessions for yourself.’


This stone that I have set up as a marker will be God’s house, and I will give to you a tenth of all that you give me.’


Let Pharaoh do this: let him appoint overseers over the land and take a fifth of the harvest of the land of Egypt during the seven years of abundance.


Joseph said to the people, ‘Understand today that I have acquired you and your land for Pharaoh. Here is seed for you. Sow it in the land.


‘You have saved our lives,’ they said. ‘We have found favour with our lord and will be Pharaoh’s slaves.’


‘Every tenth of the land’s produce, grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord;  it is holy to the Lord.


Every tenth animal from the herd or flock, which passes under the shepherd’s rod,  will be holy to the Lord.


‘Look, I have given the Levites every tenth  in Israel as an inheritance in return for the work they do, the work of the tent of meeting.


‘Each year you are to set aside a tenth of all the produce grown in your fields.


‘When you have finished paying all the tenth of your produce in the third year,  the year of the tenth, you are to give it to the Levites, resident foreigners, fatherless children, and widows, so that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied.
