Abram lived in the land of Canaan, but Lot lived in the cities on the plain and set up his tent near Sodom.
The men got up from there and looked out over Sodom, and Abraham was walking with them to see them off.
The men turned from there and went towards Sodom while Abraham remained standing before the Lord.
But the angels reached out, brought Lot into the house with them, and shut the door.
and said, ‘My lords, turn aside to your servant’s house, wash your feet, and spend the night. Then you can get up early and go on your way.’ ‘No,’ they said. ‘We would rather spend the night in the square.’
Then Joseph took them from his father’s knees and bowed with his face to the ground.
When I went out to the city gate and took my seat in the town square,
No stranger had to spend the night on the street, for I opened my door to the traveller.
It will be the same as it was in the days of Lot: People went on eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building.
Don’t neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guests without knowing it.
