and he said to them, ‘Can we find anyone like this, a man who has God’s spirit  in him? ’


Bel crouches; Nebo cowers. Idols depicting them are consigned to beasts and cattle. The images you carry are loaded, as a burden for the weary animal.


Then he  remembered the days of the past, the days of Moses and his people. Where is he who brought them out of the sea with the shepherds  of his flock? Where is he who put his Holy Spirit among the flock?


Announce to the nations; proclaim and raise up a signal flag; proclaim, and hide nothing. Say, ‘Babylon is captured; Bel  is put to shame; Marduk is terrified.’ Her idols are put to shame; her false gods devastated.


I will plant it on Israel’s high mountain so that it may bear branches, produce fruit, and become a majestic cedar. Birds of every kind will nest under it, taking shelter in the shade of its branches.


The chief eunuch gave them names; he gave the name Belteshazzar to Daniel, Shadrach to Hananiah, Meshach to Mishael, and Abednego to Azariah.


What the king is asking is so difficult that no one can make it known to him except the gods, whose dwelling is not with mortals.’


The king said in reply to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar,  ‘Are you able to tell me the dream I had and its interpretation? ’


Nebuchadnezzar asked them, ‘Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, is it true that you don’t serve my gods or worship the gold statue  I have set up?


This is the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, had. Now, Belteshazzar, tell me the interpretation, because none of the wise men of my kingdom can make the interpretation known to me.  But you can, because you have a spirit of the holy gods.’


‘Belteshazzar, head of the magicians, because I know that you have the spirit of the holy gods  and that no mystery puzzles you,  explain to me the visions of my dream that I saw, and its interpretation.


I’ve heard that you have a spirit of the gods in you, and that insight, intelligence, and extraordinary wisdom are found in you.
