Though seeing many things,  you pay no attention. Though his ears are open, he does not listen.’


Then Simeon blessed them and told his mother Mary, ‘Indeed, this child is destined to cause the fall and rise of many in Israel  and to be a sign that will be opposed   #– #


But some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, ‘It is necessary to circumcise them and to command them to keep the law of Moses.’


But I admit this to you: I worship the God of my ancestors according to the Way,  which they call a sect, believing everything that is in accordance with the law and written in the prophets.


They have known me for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived as a Pharisee.


Then the high priest rose up. He and all who were with him, who belonged to the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.


First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you because the news of your faith  is being reported in all the world.


Indeed, it is necessary that there be factions  among you, so that those who are approved may be recognised among you.


Conduct  yourselves honourably among the Gentiles,  so that when they slander you as evildoers, they will observe your good works and will glorify God on the day he visits.


Yet do this with gentleness and reverence, keeping a clear conscience,  so that when you are accused,  those who disparage your good conduct in Christ will be put to shame.
