They set out from Bethel. When they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth, and her labour was difficult.


When a woman is in labour, she has pain   because her time has come. But when she has given birth to a child,   she no longer remembers the suffering because of the joy that a person has been born into the world.


Eli’s daughter-in-law, the wife of Phinehas, was pregnant and about to give birth. When she heard the news about the capture of God’s ark and the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband, she collapsed and gave birth because her labour pains came on her.
