The scepter from Judah and the leader from his thigh will not be taken away, until he who will be sent arrives, and he will be the expectation of Gentiles.


In that time, Herod the Tetrarch heard the news about Jesus.


For Herod had apprehended John, and bound him, and put him in prison, because of Herodias, the wife of his brother.


Then, on Herod's birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced in their midst, and it pleased Herod.


Therefore, tell us, how does it seem to you? Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar, or not?"


And they led him, bound, and handed him over to Pontius Pilate, the procurator.


For Herod himself had sent to capture John, and had chained him in prison, because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip; for he had married her.


And when an opportune time had arrived, Herod held a feast on his birthday, with the leaders, and the tribunes, and the first rulers of Galilee.


On the same day, some of the Pharisees approached, saying to him: "Depart, and go away from here. For Herod wishes to kill you."


And it happened in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, so that the whole world would be enrolled.


And so Pilate issued a judgment granting their petition.


But Herod the tetrarch, when he was corrected by him concerning Herodias, his brother's wife, and concerning all the evils that Herod had done,


Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all the things that were being done by him, but he doubted, because it was said


"Claudius Lysias, to the most excellent governor, Felix: greetings.


Then, when two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Portius Festus. And since Felix wanted to show particular favor to the Jews, he left Paul behind as a prisoner.


And the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and those who were sitting with them.


For truly Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, joined together in this city against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed
