As when one ploweth and cleaveth the earth,\par\tab Our bones are scattered at the mouth of Sheol.


Make haste to answer me, O Jehovah; my spirit faileth:\par\tab Hide not thy face from me,\par\tab Lest I become like them that go down into the pit.


Let death come suddenly upon them,\par\tab Let them go down alive into Sheol;\par\tab For wickedness is in their dwelling, in the midst of them.


As for me, I will call upon God;\par\tab And Jehovah will save me.


But thou, O God, wilt bring them down into the pit of destruction:\par\tab Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days;\par\tab But I will trust in thee.\par


Let not the waterflood overwhelm me,\par\tab Neither let the deep swallow me up;\par\tab And let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.


The nations are sunk down in the pit that they made:\par\tab In the net which they hid is their own foot taken.


Yet thou shalt be brought down to Sheol, to the uttermost parts of the pit.


Sheol from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming; it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.


For Sheol cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee:\par\tab They that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.


to the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves in their stature, neither set their top among the thick boughs, nor that their mighty ones stand up on their height, {\i even} all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.\par


Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even her, and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the nether parts of the earth, with them that go down into the pit.


There are the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who are gone down with the slain; in the terror which they caused by their might they are put to shame; and they lie uncircumcised with them that are slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to the pit.\par

Notwithstanding, the sons of Korah died not.


For a fire is kindled in mine anger, And burneth unto the lowest Sheol, And devoureth the earth with its increase, And setteth on fire the foundations of the mountains.


Woe unto them! for they went in the way of Cain, and ran riotously in the error of Balaam for hire, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah.
