Genesis 11 - Hebrew Names version (HNV) Hebrew Names version (HNV)
Genesis 11

The whole earth was of one language and of one speech.

It happened, as they traveled east, that they found a plain in the land of Shin`ar, and they lived there.

They said one to another, *Come, let's make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.* They had brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.

They said, *Come, let's build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let's make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.*

The LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.

The LORD said, *Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do.

Come, let's go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.*

So the LORD scattered them abroad from there on the surface of all the earth. They stopped building the city.

Therefore the name of it was called Bavel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth. From there, the LORD scattered them abroad on the surface of all the earth.

Arpakhshad lived thirty-five years and became the father of Shelach.

Arpakhshad lived four hundred three years after he became the father of Shelach, and became the father of sons and daughters.

Shelach lived thirty years, and became the father of `Ever:

and Shelach lived four hundred three years after he became the father of `Ever, and became the father of sons and daughters.

`Ever lived thirty-four years, and became the father of Peleg.

`Ever lived four hundred thirty years after he became the father of Peleg, and became the father of sons and daughters.

Peleg lived thirty years, and became the father of Re`u.

Peleg lived two hundred nine years after he became the father of Re`u, and became the father of sons and daughters.

Re`u lived thirty-two years, and became the father of Serug.

Re`u lived two hundred seven years after he became the father of Serug, and became the father of sons and daughters.

Serug lived thirty years, and became the father of Nachor.

Serug lived two hundred years after he became the father of Nachor, and became the father of sons and daughters.

Nachor lived one hundred nineteen years after he became the father of Terach, and became the father of sons and daughters.

Now this is the history of the generations of Terach. Terach became the father of Avram, Nachor, and Charan. Charan became the father of Lot.

Charan died before his father Terach in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Kasdim.

Avram and Nachor took wives. The name of Avram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nachor's wife, Milkah, the daughter of Charan who was also the father of Yiskah.

Sarai was barren. She had no child.

Terach took Avram his son, Lot the son of Charan, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Avram's wife. They went forth from Ur of the Kasdim, to go into the land of Kena`an. They came to Charan and lived there.

The days of Terach were two hundred five years. Terach died in Charan.
