And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD,


And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek unto the LORD; and he proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.


Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their adversaries, who distressed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours who saved them out of the hand of their adversaries.


My friends scorn me: But mine eye poureth out tears unto God;


For my sighing cometh before I eat, And my roarings are poured out like water


He singeth before men, and saith, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, And it profited me not:


Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer thee? I lay mine hand upon my mouth.


Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent In dust and ashes.


We have sinned with our fathers, We have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.


Mine eyes run down with rivers of water, Because they observe not thy law. צ TZADE


My tears have been my meat day and night, While they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?


I am weary with my groaning; Every night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.


Trust in him at all times, ye people; Pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah


Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.


Now it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, that all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before the LORD.


Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!


Mine eyes do fail with tears, my bowels are troubled, my liver is poured upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people; because the young children and the sucklings swoon in the streets of the city.


Mine eye poureth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,


The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us! for we have sinned.


Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge them? Cause them to know the abominations of their fathers;


Hear this, O ye priests, and hearken, ye house of Israel, and give ear, O house of the king, for unto you pertain the judgement; for ye have been a snare at Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor.


Yet even now, saith the LORD, turn ye unto me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:


And it shall be a statute for ever unto you: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and shall do no manner of work, the homeborn, or the stranger that sojourneth among you:


And they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me, and also that because they have walked contrary unto me,


I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight:


and Mizpeh, and Chephirah, and Mozah;


And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying, We have sinned against thee, even because we have forsaken our God, and have served the Baalim.


And the children of Israel said unto the LORD, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; only deliver us, we pray thee, this day.


And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.


(And the children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until even; and they asked of the LORD, saying, Shall I again draw nigh to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.)


Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto Beth-el, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.


And the spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel; and he went out to war, and the LORD delivered Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand: and his hand prevailed against Cushan-rishathaim.


And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before the LORD.


And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpah;


And they cried unto the LORD, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken the LORD, and have served the Baalim and the Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.


And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
