“Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their backs and killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you, and they committed great blasphemies.


In the pride of their countenance the wicked say, “God will not seek it out”; all their thoughts are, “There is no God.”


For you hate discipline, and you cast my words behind you.


But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, to tell of all your works.


because they had no faith in God and did not trust his saving power.


The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.


and you say, “Oh, how I hated discipline, and my heart despised reproof!


Why do you seek further beatings? Why do you continue to rebel? The whole head is injured, and the whole heart faint.


The Lord said: Because these people draw near with their mouths and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me and their worship of me is a human commandment learned by rote,


Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and who rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord!


Yet you did not call upon me, O Jacob; but you have been weary of me, O Israel!


the Arameans on the east and the Philistines on the west, and they devoured Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger has not turned away; his hand is stretched out still.


This is your lot, the portion I have measured out to you, says the Lord, because you have forgotten me and trusted in lies.


In vain I have struck down your children; they accepted no correction. Your own sword devoured your prophets like a ravening lion.


I spoke to you in your prosperity, but you said, “I will not listen.” This has been your way from your youth, for you have not obeyed my voice.


They have turned their backs to me, not their faces; though I have taught them persistently, they would not listen and accept correction.


Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Go and say to the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Can you not learn a lesson and obey my words? says the Lord.


Therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: I am going to bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem every disaster that I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them and they have not listened, I have called to them and they have not answered.


O Lord, do your eyes not look for truth? You have struck them, but they felt no anguish; you have consumed them, but they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to turn back.


Mortal, say to it: You are a land that is not cleansed, not rained upon in the day of indignation.


Yet when I cleansed you in your filthy lewdness, you did not become clean from your filth; you shall not again be cleansed until I have satisfied my fury upon you.


those who have turned back from following the Lord, who have not sought the Lord or inquired of him.


All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,


let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
