Then the priests and the Levites stood up and blessed the people, and their voice was heard; their prayer came to his holy dwelling in heaven.


The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven. His eyes behold; his gaze examines humankind.


“Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations; I am exalted in the earth.”


Father of orphans and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.


Then the Lord awoke as from sleep, like a warrior shouting because of wine.


And the nations will take them and bring them to their place, and the house of Israel will possess the nations as male and female slaves in the Lord’s land; they will take captive those who were their captors and rule over those who oppressed them.


On that day the Egyptians will be like women and tremble with fear before the hand that the Lord of hosts raises against them.


Listen to me in silence, O coastlands; let the peoples renew their strength; let them approach, then let them speak; let us together draw near for judgment.


Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord! Awake, as in days of old, the generations of long ago! Was it not you who cut Rahab in pieces, who pierced the dragon?


For thus says the high and lofty one who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place and also with those who are contrite and humble in spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contrite.


you who burn with lust among the oaks, under every green tree; you who slaughter your children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?


Look down from heaven and see, from your holy and glorious habitation. Where are your zeal and your might? Your great pity and your compassion are withheld from me.


You, therefore, shall prophesy to them all these words and say to them: The Lord will roar from on high and from his holy habitation utter his voice; he will roar mightily against his fold and shout like those who tread grapes against all the inhabitants of the earth.


But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him!


Be silent before the Lord God, for the day of the Lord is at hand! The Lord has prepared a sacrifice; he has consecrated his guests.


Therefore, as I live, says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Moab shall become like Sodom and the Ammonites like Gomorrah, a land possessed by nettles and salt pits and a waste forever. The remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the survivors of my nation shall possess them.


Therefore wait for me, says the Lord, for the day when I arise as a witness. For my decision is to gather nations, to assemble kingdoms, to pour out upon them my indignation, all the heat of my anger, for in the fire of my passion all the earth shall be consumed.


“The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you.


“Those who are far off shall come and help to build the temple of the Lord, and you shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you. This will happen if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God.”


Now we know that, whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world may be held accountable to God.


But who indeed are you, a human, to argue with God? Will what is molded say to the one who molds it, “Why have you made me like this?”


You may say to yourself, ‘How can we recognize a word that the Lord has not spoken?’


If a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord but the thing does not take place or prove true, it is a word that the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; do not be frightened by it.


Look down from your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless your people Israel and the ground that you have given us, as you swore to our ancestors, a land flowing with milk and honey.’
