When he is quiet, who can condemn? When he hides his face, who can behold him? Whether nation or person, it is the same—


Why should I fear in times of trouble, when the iniquity of my persecutors surrounds me,


But you, O God, will cast them down into the lowest pit; the bloodthirsty and treacherous shall not live out half their days. But I will trust in you.


The nations have sunk in the pit that they made; in the net that they hid has their own foot been caught.


Is evil a recompense for good? Yet they have dug a pit for my life. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.


May a cry be heard from their houses when you bring the marauder suddenly upon them! For they have dug a pit to catch me and laid snares for my feet.


I hear, and I tremble within; my lips quiver at the sound. Rottenness enters into my bones, and my steps tremble beneath me. I wait quietly for the day of calamity to come upon the people who attack us.


So then, a Sabbath rest still remains for the people of God,


then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trial and to keep the unrighteous until the day of judgment, when they will be punished


The nations raged, but your wrath has come, and the time for judging the dead, for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints and all who fear your name, both small and great, and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”


And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who from now on die in the Lord.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them.”
