How long, O Lord, will you look on? Rescue me from their ravages, my life from the lions!


Wild oxen shall fall with them and young steers with the mighty bulls. Their land shall be soaked with blood, and their soil made rich with fat.


God, who brings them out of Egypt, is like the horns of a wild ox for them.


When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour and the power of darkness!”


I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me,


So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.


“For in this city, in fact, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the gentiles and the peoples of Israel, gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed,


A firstborn bull—majesty is his! His horns are the horns of a wild ox; with them he gores the peoples all together to the ends of the earth; such are the myriads of Ephraim, such the thousands of Manasseh.”


But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth.


Discipline yourselves; keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour.
