For the Lord saw that the distress of Israel was very bitter; there was no one left, bond or free, and no one to help Israel.


Why, O Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?


You have seen, O Lord; do not be silent! O Lord, do not be far from me!


Do not forsake me, O Lord; O my God, do not be far from me;


Draw near to me; redeem me; set me free because of my enemies.


O God, do not be far from me; O my God, make haste to help me!


From my birth I have leaned upon you, my protector since my mother’s womb. My praise is continually of you.


For he delivers the needy when they call, the poor and those who have no helper.


I looked, but there was no helper; I was abandoned, and there was no one to sustain me, so my own arm brought me victory, and my wrath sustained me.


But all this has taken place, so that the scriptures of the prophets may be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.


Again he denied it with an oath, “I do not know the man.”


Then he began to curse, and he swore an oath, “I do not know the man!” At that moment the cock crowed.


The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each one to his home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me.


Indeed, the Lord will vindicate his people, have compassion on his servants, when he sees that their power is gone, neither bond nor free remaining.


In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
