“I have made a covenant with my eyes; how, then, could I look upon a virgin?


I hate the double-minded, but I love your law.


Turn my eyes from looking at vanities; be gracious to me according to your word.


But those who turn aside to their own crooked ways, the Lord will lead away with evildoers. Peace be upon Israel!


I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies.


They have all gone astray; they are all alike perverse; there is no one who does good, no, not one.


The words of their mouths are mischief and deceit; they have ceased to act wisely and do good.


I said, “I will guard my ways that I may not sin with my tongue; I will keep a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence.”


Happy are those who make the Lord their trust, who do not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after false gods.


Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, has lifted the heel against me.


They tested God again and again and provoked the Holy One of Israel.


but turned away and were faithless like their ancestors; they twisted like a treacherous bow.


You who love the Lord, hate evil; he guards the lives of his faithful; he rescues them from the hand of the wicked.


“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female slave, ox, donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”


they have been quick to turn aside from the way that I commanded them; they have cast for themselves an image of a calf and have worshiped it and sacrificed to it and said, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!’ ”


A scoundrel and a villain goes around with crooked speech,


winking the eyes, shuffling the feet, pointing the fingers,


Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes,


The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.


Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of desire; this also is vanity and a chasing after wind.


leave the way; turn aside from the path; let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.”


Those who walk righteously and speak uprightly, who despise the gain of oppression, who wave away a bribe instead of accepting it, who stop their ears from hearing of bloodshed and shut their eyes from looking on evil,


But your eyes and heart are only on your dishonest gain, for shedding innocent blood, and for practicing oppression and violence.


They covet fields and seize them, houses and take them away; they oppress householder and house, people and their inheritance.


do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all these are things that I hate, says the Lord.”


But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.


Let love be genuine; hate what is evil; hold fast to what is good;


Now, however, that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and beggarly elemental principles? How can you want to be enslaved to them again?


Do not let anything devoted to destruction stick to your hand, so that the Lord may turn from his fierce anger and show you compassion, and in his compassion multiply you, as he swore to your ancestors,


Be careful that you do not entertain a mean thought, thinking, ‘The seventh year, the year of remission, is near,’ and therefore view your needy neighbor with hostility and give nothing; your neighbor might cry to the Lord against you, and you would incur guilt.


But we are not among those who shrink back and so are lost but among those who have faith and so preserve our souls.


Therefore be very steadfast to observe and do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, turning aside from it neither to the right nor to the left,


For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment that was handed on to them.


They went out from us, but they did not belong to us, for if they had belonged to us they would have remained with us. But by going out they made it plain that none of them belongs to us.
