And Abraham looked up and saw a ram, caught in a thicket by its horns. Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son.


He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.”


Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.


And Jethro, Moses’s father-in-law, brought a burnt offering and sacrifices to God, and Aaron came with all the elders of Israel to eat bread with Moses’s father-in-law in the presence of God.


The Lord summoned Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying,


He answered, “Must I not take care to say what the Lord puts into my mouth?”


Balaam said to Balak, “Stand here beside your burnt offerings, while I meet the Lord over there.”


Balak did as Balaam had said and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.


But Balaam answered Balak, “Did I not speak to you, saying, ‘Whatever the Lord says, that is what I must do’?”


Then God met Balaam, and Balaam said to him, “I have arranged the seven altars and have offered a bull and a ram on each altar.”


Now Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, so he did not go, as at other times, to look for omens but set his face toward the wilderness.


Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory,


but I would not listen to Balaam; therefore he blessed you, so I rescued you out of his hand.
