Moses said, “This is what the Lord has commanded: Let an omer of it be kept throughout your generations in order that they may see the food with which I fed you in the wilderness when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.”


Just as the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron placed it before the covenant, for safekeeping.


Hear, O heavens, and listen, O earth, for the Lord has spoken: I reared children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against me.


Since the days of Gibeah you have sinned, O Israel; there they have continued. Shall not war overtake them in Gibeah?


Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the Israelites.


“Separate yourselves from this congregation, so that I may consume them in a moment.”


For the censers of these sinners have become holy at the cost of their lives. Make them into hammered plates as a covering for the altar, for they presented them before the Lord and they became holy. Thus they shall be a sign to the Israelites.”


a reminder to the Israelites that no outsider, who is not of the descendants of Aaron, shall approach to offer incense before the Lord, so as not to become like Korah and his congregation, just as the Lord had said to him through Moses.


Moses did so; just as the Lord commanded him, so he did.


Place them in the tent of meeting before the covenant, where I meet with you.


Then Moses brought out all the staffs from before the Lord to all the Israelites, and they looked, and each man took his staff.


So Moses took the staff from before the Lord, as he had commanded him.


“You must not let the tribe of the clans of the Kohathites be destroyed from among the Levites.


And do not complain, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer.


Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes on those who are disobedient.


You have been rebellious against the Lord as long as he has known you.


Remember; do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness; you have been rebellious against the Lord from the day you came out of the land of Egypt until you came to this place.


In it stood the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which there were a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant;


Now the sons of Eli were scoundrels; they had no regard for the Lord


Then all the corrupt and worthless fellows among the men who had gone with David said, “Because they did not go with us, we will not give them any of the spoil that we have recovered, except that each man may take his wife and children and leave.”
