But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.


When Herod died, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said,


But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And after being warned in a dream, he went away to the district of Galilee.


For he realized that it was out of jealousy that they had handed him over.


So when Pilate saw that he could do nothing but rather that a riot was beginning, he took some water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”


He said, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.”


And we indeed have been condemned justly, for we are getting what we deserve for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.”


When the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God and said, “Certainly this man was innocent.”


When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus outside and sat on the judge’s bench at a place called The Stone Pavement, or in Hebrew Gabbatha.


On an appointed day Herod put on his royal robes, took his seat on the platform, and delivered a public address to them.


But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a united attack on Paul and brought him before the tribunal.


And he dismissed them from the tribunal.


Then all of them seized Sosthenes, the official of the synagogue, and beat him in front of the tribunal. But Gallio paid no attention to any of these things.


Paul said, “I am standing before the emperor’s tribunal; this is where I should be tried. I have done no wrong to the Jews, as you very well know.


So when they met here, I lost no time but on the next day took my seat on the tribunal and ordered the man to be brought.


After he had stayed among them not more than eight or ten days, he went down to Caesarea; the next day he took his seat on the tribunal and ordered Paul to be brought.


“He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.”


My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous,
