When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them.


Once more Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying:


And when the chief priests and the scribes heard it, they kept looking for a way to kill him, for they were afraid of him because the whole crowd was spellbound by his teaching.


Fear seized all of them, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen among us!” and “God has visited his people!”


Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what kind of woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner.”


Then they tried to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him because his hour had not yet come.


The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify against it that its works are evil.
