There he made his home in a town called Nazareth, so that what had been spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, “He will be called a Nazarene.”


When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, “Who is this?”


But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ we are afraid of the crowd, for all regard John as a prophet.”


They wanted to arrest him, but they feared the crowds, because they regarded him as a prophet.


But others said, “It is Elijah.” And others said, “It is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”


Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for a prophet to be killed outside of Jerusalem.’


He asked them, “What things?” They replied, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,


Fear seized all of them, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen among us!” and “God has visited his people!”


Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what kind of woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner.”


And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” He answered, “No.”


They asked him, “Why, then, are you baptizing if you are neither the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”


The woman said to him, “Sir, I see that you are a prophet.


When the people saw the sign that he had done, they began to say, “This is indeed the prophet who is to come into the world.”


When they heard these words, some in the crowd said, “This is really the prophet.”


So they said again to the blind man, “What do you say about him? It was your eyes he opened.” He said, “He is a prophet.”


This is the Moses who said to the Israelites, ‘God will raise up a prophet for you from your own people as he raised me up.’
