I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”


These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created. In the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,


and by your offspring shall all the nations of the earth gain blessing for themselves, because you have obeyed my voice.”


This is the list of the descendants of Adam. When God created humans, he made them in the likeness of God.


The Lord swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back: “One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne.


You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to my servant David:


His line shall continue forever, and his throne endure before me like the sun.


A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.


By a perversion of justice he was taken away. Who could have imagined his future? For he was cut off from the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people.


The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.


would I reject the offspring of Jacob and of my servant David and not choose any of his descendants as rulers over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and will have mercy upon them.


On that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen and repair its breaches and raise up its ruins and rebuild it as in the days of old,


On that day the Lord will shield the inhabitants of Jerusalem so that the feeblest among them on that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel of the Lord, at their head.


Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be pregnant from the Holy Spirit.


Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,


Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came out and started shouting, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon.”


And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw God’s Spirit descending like a dove and alighting on him.


As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, crying loudly, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”


He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”


Has not the scripture said that the Messiah is descended from David and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?”


Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would put one of his descendants on his throne.

For the promise that he would inherit the world did not come to Abraham or to his descendants through the law but through the righteousness of faith.


to them belong the patriarchs, and from them, according to the flesh, comes the Christ, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.


Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring; it does not say, “And to offsprings,” as of many, but it says, “And to your offspring,” that is, to one person, who is Christ.


For there is one God; there is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human,


Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David—that is my gospel,


“It is I, Jesus, who sent my angel to you with this testimony for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”
