Rise up, O God, plead your cause; remember how the impious scoff at you all day long.


Thus says the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel and his Holy One, to one deeply despised, abhorred by the nations, the slave of rulers, “Kings shall see and stand up; princes, and they shall prostrate themselves, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”


I gave my back to those who struck me and my cheeks to those who pulled out the beard; I did not hide my face from insult and spitting.


Just as there were many who were astonished at him —so marred was his appearance, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of mortals—


Then the Lord said to me, “Throw it into the treasury”—this lordly price at which I was valued by them. So I took the thirty shekels of silver and threw them into the treasury in the house of the Lord.


“Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is my associate,” says the Lord of hosts. “Strike the shepherd, that the sheep may be scattered; I will turn my hand against the little ones.


He will turn the hearts of parents to their children and the hearts of children to their parents, so that I will not come and strike the land with a curse.


From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and undergo great suffering at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed and on the third day be raised.


The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that one by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that one not to have been born.”


saying, “Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death; then they will hand him over to the gentiles;


But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written about him.”


for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again.”


And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,


Even Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him; then he put an elegant robe on him and sent him back to Pilate.


One of the criminals who were hanged there kept deriding him and saying, “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”


So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?”


This Jesus is ‘the stone that was rejected by you, the builders; it has become the cornerstone.’
