48 When he saw that they were straining at the oars against an adverse wind, he came toward them early in the morning, walking on the sea. He intended to pass them by.

At the morning watch the Lord, in the pillar of fire and cloud, looked down on the Egyptian army and threw the Egyptian army into a panic.


O afflicted one, storm-tossed and not comforted, I am about to set your stones in antimony and lay your foundations with sapphires.


but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them.


But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into.


Therefore, keep awake, for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening or at midnight or at cockcrow or at dawn,


When evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land.


But when they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost and cried out,


If he comes during the middle of the night or near dawn and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.


As they came near the village to which they were going, he walked ahead as if he were going on.


who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.


The next day Saul put the people in three companies. At the morning watch they came into the camp and cut down the Ammonites until the heat of the day, and those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.
