“You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”

But they said, “Not during the festival, or there may be a riot among the people.”

And when the chief priests and the scribes heard it, they kept looking for a way to kill him, for they were afraid of him because the whole crowd was spellbound by his teaching.

But shall we say, ‘Of human origin’?”—they were afraid of the crowd, for all regarded John as truly a prophet.

But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ all the people will stone us, for they are convinced that John was a prophet.”

Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was near.

The Pharisees then said to one another, “You see, you can do nothing. Look, the world has gone after him!”

When they heard these words, some in the crowd said, “This is really the prophet.”
