‘How?’ the Lord asked him. He replied, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ Then the Lord said, ‘You are to entice him, and you shall succeed; go out and do it.’

Have you not put a fence around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.

The Lord said to the accuser, “Very well, all that he has is in your power; only do not stretch out your hand against him!” So the accuser went out from the presence of the Lord.

who sit inside tombs and spend the night in secret places; who eat the flesh of pigs, with broth of abominable things in their vessels;

Whoever slaughters an ox is like one who kills a human, whoever sacrifices a lamb like one who breaks a dog’s neck, whoever presents a grain offering like one who offers pig’s blood, whoever makes a memorial offering of frankincense like one who blesses an idol. Just as these have chosen their own ways and in their abominations they take delight,

The pig, for even though it has divided hoofs and is cleft-footed, it does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you.

“Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under foot and turn and maul you.

They begged him not to order them to go back into the abyss.

Jesus answered him, “You would have no power over me unless it had been given you from above; therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”

Little children, you are from God and have conquered them, for the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

When the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison
