Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.”


For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.


Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?’


At that very hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.


For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”


But who indeed are you, a human, to argue with God? Will what is molded say to the one who molds it, “Why have you made me like this?”


In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will,


he has made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ,


Elijah was a human like us, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.


They have authority to shut the sky, so that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have authority over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they desire.
