While he was in distress, he entreated the favor of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors.


After all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great guilt, seeing that you, our God, have punished us less than our iniquities deserved and have given us such a remnant as this,


They stood up in their place and read from the book of the law of the Lord their God for a fourth part of the day, and for another fourth they made confession and worshiped the Lord their God.


I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession, saying, “Ah, Lord, great and awesome God, keeping covenant and steadfast love with those who love you and keep your commandments,


While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that innocent man, for today I have suffered a great deal because of a dream about him.”


So when Pilate saw that he could do nothing but rather that a riot was beginning, he took some water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”


He said, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.”


Now when the centurion and those with him, who were keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were terrified and said, “Truly this man was God’s Son!”


But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?


Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come in your kingdom.”


You are witnesses, and God also, how pure, upright, and blameless our conduct was toward you believers.


Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.


but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish.


When he was abused, he did not return abuse; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but he entrusted himself to the one who judges justly.
