Pilate asked them, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him!”


And the people stood by watching, but the leaders scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Messiah of God, his chosen one!”


and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him.


Nevertheless many, even of the authorities, believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue,


Pilate asked him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, “I find no case against him.


Pilate went out again and said to them, “Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no case against him.”


Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews.


And here he is, speaking openly, but they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Messiah?


Has any one of the authorities or of the Pharisees believed in him?


Because the residents of Jerusalem and their leaders did not recognize him or understand the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath, they fulfilled those words by condemning him.


“And now, brothers and sisters, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers.


The next day their rulers, elders, and scribes assembled in Jerusalem,


Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders,
