But I am a worm and not human, scorned by others and despised by the people.


Thus says the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel and his Holy One, to one deeply despised, abhorred by the nations, the slave of rulers, “Kings shall see and stand up; princes, and they shall prostrate themselves, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”


He was despised and rejected by others; a man of suffering and acquainted with infirmity, and as one from whom others hide their faces he was despised, and we held him of no account.


At that time Herod the ruler heard reports about Jesus,


For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,


But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company, and she pleased Herod


He said to them, “Elijah is indeed coming first to restore all things. How then is it written about the Son of Man, that he is to go through many sufferings and be treated with contempt?


The chief priests and the scribes stood by vehemently accusing him.


So Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Behold the man!”


For if a person with gold rings and in fine clothes comes into your assembly, and if a poor person in dirty clothes also comes in,


and if you take notice of the one wearing the fine clothes and say, “Have a seat here in a good place, please,” while to the one who is poor you say, “Stand there,” or, “Sit by my footstool,”
