Then Elijah said to the people, “I, even I only, am left a prophet of the Lord, but Baal’s prophets number four hundred fifty.


The Lord gives the command; great is the company of those who bore the tidings:


I will give you shepherds after my own heart who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.


Oh, my worthless shepherd, who deserts the flock! May the sword strike his arm and his right eye! Let his arm be completely withered, his right eye utterly blinded!”


Those who buy them kill them and go unpunished, and those who sell them say, ‘Blessed be the Lord, for I have become rich,’ and their own shepherds have no pity on them.


I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the spirit that is on you and put it on them, and they shall bear the burden of the people along with you so that you will not bear it all by yourself.


But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his spirit on them!”


“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.


It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his slaves in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch.


And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.


And they went out and proclaimed the good news everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that accompanied it.]]


Then Jesus called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases,


Now those who were scattered because of the persecution that took place over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, and they spoke the word to no one except Jews.


While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”


So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.


Keep watch over yourselves and over all the flock, of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God that he obtained with the blood of his own Son.


Then he said to me, ‘Go, for I will send you far away to the gentiles.’ ”


Now those who were scattered went from place to place proclaiming the word.


And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then deeds of power, then gifts of healing, forms of assistance, forms of leadership, various kinds of tongues.


But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me has not been in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I but the grace of God that is with me.


As we work together with him, we entreat you also not to accept the grace of God in vain.


All of them are seeking their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.


Still, I think it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus—my brother and coworker and fellow soldier, your messenger and minister to my need,


because he came close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for those services that you could not give me.


For this I toil and strive with all the energy that he powerfully inspires within me.


Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, greets you. He is always striving in his prayers on your behalf, so that you may stand mature and fully assured in everything that God wills.


You remember our labor and toil, brothers and sisters; we worked night and day so that we might not burden any of you while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.


But we appeal to you, brothers and sisters, to respect those who labor among you and have charge of you in the Lord and admonish you;


Finally, brothers and sisters, pray for us, so that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be glorified everywhere, just as it is among you,


For to this end we toil and suffer reproach, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.


As for you, be sober in everything, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, carry out your ministry fully.

Christ, however, was faithful over God’s house as a son, and we are his house if we hold firm the boldness and the pride inspired by hope.
