You ascended the high mount, leading captives in your train and receiving gifts from people, even from those who rebel against the Lord God’s abiding there.


Give heed to my reproof; I will pour out my thoughts to you; I will make my words known to you.


With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.


until a spirit from on high is poured out on us, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is deemed a forest.


For I will pour water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my spirit upon your descendants and my blessing on your offspring.


Then afterward I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.


And they said, “Some say John the Baptist but others Elijah and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”


The crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.”


And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised, so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”


John answered all of them by saying, “I baptize you with water, but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.


Fear seized all of them, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen among us!” and “God has visited his people!”


And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” He answered, “No.”


They asked him, “Why, then, are you baptizing if you are neither the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”


I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’


His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written of him and had been done to him.


Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.


I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.


But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I have said to you.


He will glorify me because he will take what is mine and declare it to you.


Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you.


After Jesus had spoken these words, he looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you,


So now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had in your presence before the world existed.


When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.


When the people saw the sign that he had done, they began to say, “This is indeed the prophet who is to come into the world.”


And there was considerable complaining about him among the crowds. While some were saying, “He is a good man,” others were saying, “No, he is deceiving the crowd.”


Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, he of whom you say, ‘He is our God,’


He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?” They replied, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”


‘In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.


Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you see and hear.


Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.


All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.


The God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, the God of our ancestors, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate, though he had decided to release him.


When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.


But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.


how much more will the ministry of the Spirit come in glory?


And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which you were marked with a seal for the day of redemption.
