And from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, he bought for one hundred pieces of money the plot of land on which he had pitched his tent.


I now give to you one portion more than to your brothers, the portion that I took from the hand of the Amorites with my sword and with my bow.”


For the saying that he proclaimed by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel and against all the houses of the high places that are in the cities of Samaria shall surely come to pass.”


And he sent messengers ahead of him. On their way they entered a village of the Samaritans to prepare for his arrival,


Are you greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us the well and with his sons and his flocks drank from it?”


Many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I have ever done.”


Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired out by his journey, was sitting by the well. It was about noon.


(His disciples had gone to the city to buy food.)


The bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt, were buried at Shechem, in the portion of ground that Jacob had bought from the children of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for one hundred pieces of money; it became an inheritance of the descendants of Joseph.
