So Moses cried out to the Lord, “What shall I do for this people? They are almost ready to stone me.”


But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how to destroy him.


But the tenants seized his slaves and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.


so that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.


This is the testimony given by John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”


So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”


Jesus replied, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these are you going to stone me?”


The disciples said to him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just now trying to stone you, and are you going there again?”


For this reason the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because he was not only breaking the Sabbath but was also calling God his own Father, thereby making himself equal to God.


So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.


Which of the prophets did your ancestors not persecute? They killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, and now you have become his betrayers and murderers.


David was in great danger, for the people spoke of stoning him because all the people were bitter in spirit for their sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
