Why were there knees to receive me or breasts for me to suck?


Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime, like the untimely birth that never sees the sun.


From my birth I have leaned upon you, my protector since my mother’s womb. My praise is continually of you.


And I commended the dead, who have already died, more than the living, who are still alive,


but better than both is the one who has not yet been and has not seen the evil deeds that are done under the sun.


A man may father a hundred children and live many years, but however many are the days of his years, if he does not enjoy life’s good things or has no burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.


moreover, it has not seen the sun or known anything, yet it finds rest rather than he.


Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been borne by me from your birth, carried from the womb;


Woe is me, my mother, that you ever bore me, a man of strife and contention to the whole land! I have not lent, nor have I borrowed, yet all of them curse me.


because he did not kill me in the womb; so my mother would have been my grave and her womb forever pregnant.


Give them, O Lord— what will you give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.
