Terrifying sounds are in their ears; in prosperity the destroyer will come upon them.


they will not be rich, and their wealth will not endure, nor will they strike root in the earth;


They have no offspring or descendant among their people and no survivor where they used to live.


Woe to those who join house to house, who add field to field, until there is room for no one, and you are left to live alone in the midst of the land!


The Lord of hosts has sworn in my hearing: Surely many houses shall be desolate, large and beautiful houses, without inhabitant.


Like the partridge hatching what it did not lay, so are all who amass wealth unjustly; in midlife it will leave them, and at their end they will prove to be fools.


They do not know how to do right, says the Lord, those who store up violence and robbery in their strongholds.


Therefore thus says the Lord God: An adversary shall surround the land and strip you of your defense, and your strongholds shall be plundered.
