I will say to God, ‘Do not condemn me; let me know why you contend against me.


“For has anyone said to God, ‘I have endured punishment; I will not offend any more;


teach me what I do not see; if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more’?


The Lord looks down from heaven on humankind to see if there are any who are wise, who seek after God.


Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.


Because of their wicked covetousness I was angry; I struck them; I hid and was angry, but they kept turning back to their own ways.


He saw that there was no one and was appalled that there was no one to intervene, so his own arm brought him victory, and his righteousness upheld him.


I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in my name, saying, “I have dreamed! I have dreamed!”


will he be angry forever, will he be indignant to the end?” This is how you have spoken, but you have done all the evil that you could.


Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, look around and take note! Search its squares and see if you can find one person who acts justly and seeks truth— so that I may pardon Jerusalem.


Because they considered and turned away from all the transgressions that they had committed, they shall surely live; they shall not die.


And I sought for anyone among them who would repair the wall and stand in the breach before me on behalf of the land, so that I would not destroy it, but I found no one.


“All Israel has transgressed your law and turned aside, refusing to obey your voice. So the curse and the oath written in the law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured out upon us because we have sinned against you.


The faithful have disappeared from the land, and there is no one left who is upright; they all lie in wait for blood, and they hunt each other with nets.


I said, “Surely the city will fear me; it will accept correction; it will not lose sight of all that I have brought upon it.” But they were the more eager to make all their deeds corrupt.


Now therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider how you have fared.


“Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider how you have fared.


Then those who revered the Lord spoke with one another. The Lord took note and listened, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who revered the Lord and thought on his name.


The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.


The rest of humankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands or give up worshiping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk.
