Do you make it leap like the locust? Its majestic snorting is terrible.


The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it,


Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not know you and on the peoples that do not call on your name, for they have devoured Jacob; they have devoured him and consumed him and have laid waste his habitation.


“But from our youth the shameful thing has devoured all for which our ancestors had labored, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.


Therefore all who devour you shall be devoured, and all your foes, every one of them, shall go into captivity; those who plunder you shall be plundered, and all who prey on you I will make a prey.


Thus says the Lord: We have heard a cry of panic, of terror, and no peace.


I looked on the mountains, and they were quaking, and all the hills moved to and fro.


A lion has gone up from its thicket; a destroyer of nations has set out; he has gone out from his place to make your land a waste; your cities will be ruins without inhabitant.


At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stallions, at the clatter of his chariots, at the rumbling of their wheels, parents do not turn back for children, so feeble are their hands,


They shall eat up your harvest and your food; they shall eat up your sons and your daughters; they shall eat up your flocks and your herds; they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees; they shall destroy with the sword your fortified cities in which you trust.


They wield bow and spear; they are cruel and have no mercy. The sound of them is like the roaring sea; they ride upon horses, set in array as a warrior for battle, against you, O daughter Babylon!


The land trembles and writhes, for the Lord’s purposes against Babylon stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.


They grasp the bow and the javelin; they are cruel and have no mercy; their sound is like the roaring sea; they ride on horses, equipped like a warrior for battle, against you, O daughter Zion!


The crack of whip and rumble of wheel, galloping horse and bounding chariot!


The mountains saw you and writhed; a torrent of water swept by; the deep gave forth its voice. The sun raised high its hands;


for “the earth and its fullness are the Lord’s.”


But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, out of consideration for the one who informed you and for the sake of conscience—


They named the city Dan after their ancestor Dan, who was born to Israel, but the name of the city was formerly Laish.


Then all the Israelites came out, from Dan to Beer-sheba, including the land of Gilead, and the congregation assembled in one body before the Lord at Mizpah.


Then loud beat the horses’ hoofs with the galloping, galloping of his steeds.
