And regarding this house, now exalted, everyone passing by will be astonished and say, ‘Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and to this house?’


And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the splendor and pride of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them.


you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: How the oppressor has ceased! How his insolence has ceased!


all the kings of the north, far and near, one after another, and all the kingdoms of the world that are on the face of the earth. And after them the king of Sheshach shall drink.


How is the famous city not forsaken, the town of my joy?


How the hammer of the whole earth is cut down and broken! How Babylon has become a horror among the nations!


At the sound of the capture of Babylon the earth shall tremble, and a cry shall be heard among the nations.


and Babylon shall become a heap of ruins, a den of jackals, an object of horror and of hissing, without inhabitant.


All the inhabitants of the coastlands are appalled at you, and their kings are horribly afraid; their faces are convulsed.


into whose hand he has given human beings wherever they live, the wild animals of the field, and the birds of the air and whom he has established as ruler over them all—you are the head of gold.


it is you, O king! You have grown great and strong. Your greatness has increased and reaches to heaven, and your sovereignty to the ends of the earth.


and the king said, “Is this not magnificent Babylon, which I have built as a royal capital by my mighty power and for my glorious majesty?”


You shall become an object of horror, a proverb, and a byword among all the peoples where the Lord will lead you.
