Gedaliah swore to them and their men, saying, “Do not be afraid because of the Chaldean officials; live in the land, serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.”


You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall go well with you.


Trust in the Lord and do good; live in the land and enjoy security.


But any nation that will bring its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will leave on its own land, says the Lord, to till it and to live there.


How lonely sits the city that once was full of people! How like a widow she has become, she that was great among the nations! She that was a princess among the provinces has become subject to forced labor.


We get our bread at the peril of our lives, because of the sword in the wilderness.
