When Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; she painted her eyes and adorned her head and looked out of the window.

The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling has seized the godless: “Who among us can live with the devouring fire? Who among us can live with everlasting flames?”


What will you say when they set as head over you those whom you have trained to be your allies? Will not pangs seize you like those of a woman in labor?


O inhabitant of Lebanon, nested among the cedars, how you will groan when pangs come upon you, pain as of a woman in labor!


All your lovers have forgotten you; they care nothing for you, for I have dealt you the blow of an enemy, the punishment of a merciless foe, because your guilt is great, because your sins are so numerous.

The woman was clothed in purple and scarlet and adorned with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her prostitution,
