Jeremiah 31:40 - New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition 2021

40 The whole valley of the dead bodies and the ashes and all the fields as far as the Wadi Kidron, to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east, shall be sacred to the Lord. It shall never again be uprooted or overthrown.

The whole country wept aloud as all the people passed by; the king crossed the Wadi Kidron, and all the people moved on toward the wilderness.


So they laid hands on her; she went through the horses’ entrance to the king’s house, and there she was put to death.


The altars on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz that the kings of Judah had made and the altars that Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the Lord he pulled down from there and broke in pieces and threw the rubble into the Wadi Kidron.


He brought out the image of Asherah from the house of the Lord, outside Jerusalem, to the Wadi Kidron, burned it at the Wadi Kidron, beat it to dust, and threw the dust of it upon the graves of the common people.


So they laid hands on her; she went into the entrance of the Horse Gate of the king’s house, and there they put her to death.


Above the Horse Gate the priests made repairs, each one opposite his own house.


We ponder your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of your temple.


Thus says your Sovereign, the Lord, your God who pleads the cause of his people: See, I have taken from your hand the cup of staggering; you shall drink no more from the cup of my wrath.


See, today I appoint you over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.”


At one moment I may declare concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it,


Now therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning this city of which you say, “It is being given into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence”:


and they shall be spread before the sun and the moon and all the host of heaven, which they have loved and served, which they have followed, and which they have inquired of and worshiped, and they shall not be gathered or buried; they shall be like dung on the surface of the ground.


He led me all around them; there were very many lying in the valley, and they were very dry.


They shall live in the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, in which your ancestors lived; they and their children and their children’s children shall live there forever, and my servant David shall be their prince forever.


and I will never again hide my face from them, when I pour out my spirit upon the house of Israel, says the Lord God.


The circumference of the city shall be eighteen thousand cubits. And the name of the city from that time on shall be, The Lord Is There.


So you shall know that I, the Lord your God, dwell in Zion, my holy mountain. And Jerusalem shall be holy, and strangers shall never again pass through it.


And it shall be inhabited, for never again shall it be doomed to destruction; Jerusalem shall abide in security.


On that day there shall be inscribed on the bells of the horses, “Holy to the Lord.” And the cooking pots in the house of the Lord shall be as holy as the bowls in front of the altar,


After Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples across the Kidron Valley to a place where there was a garden, which he and his disciples entered.
