The king of Egypt did not come again out of his land, for the king of Babylon had taken over all that belonged to the king of Egypt from the Wadi of Egypt to the River Euphrates.


When you cry out, let your collection of idols deliver you! The wind will carry them off; a breath will take them away. But whoever takes refuge in me shall possess the land and inherit my holy mountain.


Keep your feet from going bare and your throat from thirst. But you said, “It is no use, for I have loved strangers, and after them I will go.”


Why do you go about so much to change your way? You shall be put to shame by Egypt as you were put to shame by Assyria.


From there also you will come away with your hands on your head, for the Lord has rejected those in whom you trust, and you will not prosper through them.


The wind shall shepherd all your shepherds, and your lovers shall go into captivity; then you will be ashamed and dismayed because of all your wickedness.


I am going to send for all the tribes of the north, says the Lord, even for King Nebuchadrezzar of Babylon, my servant, and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against all these nations around; I will utterly destroy them and make them an object of horror and of hissing and an everlasting disgrace.


If a man divorces his wife and she goes from him and becomes another man’s wife, will he return to her? Would not such a land be greatly polluted? You have prostituted yourself with many lovers, and would you return to me? says the Lord.


And you, O desolate one, what do you mean that you dress in crimson, that you deck yourself with ornaments of gold, that you enlarge your eyes with paint? In vain you beautify yourself. Your lovers despise you; they seek your life.


I called to my lovers, but they deceived me; my priests and elders perished in the city while seeking food to revive their lives.


She weeps bitterly in the night, with tears on her cheeks; among all her lovers, she has no one to comfort her; all her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they have become her enemies.


Therefore, O Oholibah, thus says the Lord God: I will rouse against you your lovers from whom you turned in disgust, and I will bring them against you from every side:


Therefore I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, into the hands of the Assyrians, for whom she lusted.


From oaks of Bashan they made your oars; they made your deck of pines from the coasts of Cyprus, inlaid with ivory.


The Lord said to Moses, “Go up this mountain of the Abarim range, and see the land that I have given to the Israelites.


“Ascend this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab across from Jericho, and view the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites for a possession;
