therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: I am going to punish them; the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine,


I the Lord test the mind and search the heart, to give to all according to their ways, according to the fruit of their doings.


But if you do not listen to me, to keep the Sabbath day holy and to carry in no burden through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in its gates; it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem and shall not be quenched.


Thus says the Lord: Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,


I will prepare destroyers against you, all with their weapons; they shall cut down your choicest cedars and cast them into the fire.


great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of mortals, rewarding all according to their ways and according to the fruit of their doings.


They shall cut down her forest, says the Lord, though it is impenetrable, because they are more numerous than locusts; they are without number.


The arrogant one shall stumble and fall, with no one to raise him up, and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it will devour everything around him.

He has cut down in fierce anger all the might of Israel; he has withdrawn his right hand from them in the face of the enemy; he has burned like a flaming fire in Jacob, consuming all around.


and say to the land of Israel: Thus says the Lord: I am coming against you and will draw my sword out of its sheath and will cut off from you both righteous and wicked.


But the earth will be desolate because of its inhabitants, for the fruit of their doings.


Open your doors, O Lebanon, so that fire may devour your cedars!
