Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.”

And they will all come and settle in the steep ravines and in the clefts of the rocks and on all the thornbushes and on all the watering holes.


The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought:


Can any idols of the nations bring rain, or can the heavens give showers? Is it not you, O Lord our God? We set our hope on you, for it is you who do all this.


This whole land shall become a ruin and a waste, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.


Thus you shall say to him, “Thus says the Lord: I am going to break down what I have built and pluck up what I have planted—that is, the whole land.


He has broken down his booth like a garden; he has destroyed his tabernacle; the Lord has abolished in Zion festival and Sabbath and in his fierce indignation has spurned king and priest.


For the Israelites shall remain many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or pillar, without ephod or teraphim.

all its soil burned out by sulfur and salt, nothing planted, nothing sprouting, unable to support any vegetation, like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the Lord destroyed in his fierce anger—


They have authority to shut the sky, so that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have authority over the waters to turn them into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague, as often as they desire.
